One of seven titles in a comprehensive history of France, originally published in the 1880's. At least one other version by Sacker of this series also exists. Although the cover is unsigned, a contemporary article indicates Sacker did the design (see below). This version is also known in white. And curiously, the 'French' border was re-used on another, unrelated work, In Old New York. Later still, the design became a title-page border for The Winged Helmet !!
