The Man Without a Country, by Edward Everett Hale
Estes and Lauriat, 1898 / Little, Brown, 1900-
The classic short historical novel concerning the traitor Philip Nolan and his banishment at sea. Interestingly, a 1916 copy of this book shown here, and published by Little, Brown, retains Amy's monogram; often reprints dropped it--see Truth Dexter. The spine lettering very much resembles that of Alcott's A Hole in the Wall, done about the same time. See also the quite different design for this same title done in 1899.
