One of a series of four similar bindings done for Hopkins titles, including the curious Clammer and the Submarine (1917) which merely adds a submarine's periscope and a hint of a wake to this image!  In 1925, Houghton Mifflin published the title below, with only the "remnants" of Sacker's design!
