volume is one of a series of five volumes by Clarke on this theme.

Bliss, Fine Arts Librarian at San Diego State University for this wonderful
image--this may be the only library with a complete set of these titles in the
original Sacker covers. You can see the different characters portrayed in each
of the volumes. Although most sources list the date of these volumes as
1891, they were actually issued in 1904, according to the American Catalogue.
Sacker could not have designed this cover at the earlier date, in any
case. An earlier cover design, circa 1887, is also seen below (it also appeared in green).
