This design probably first appeared on My Girls by Louisa May Alcott and was also used on Their Canoe Trip by Mary P. Wells Smith. I have recently discovered that this same image was used for a later edition of Juliana Horatia Ewing's Jackanapes, for which Sacker had done illustrations some years earlier. This is one of eight Richards covers that Sacker designed.
